Artist Statement

For years I’ve been photographing in or around cities. The random encounters provide quirky views of everyday life and preserve fleeting “events” that may otherwise go unnoticed. I take what is given: motion, reflections and odd lighting conditions, and consider these opportunities to embrace. The moments are ephemeral yet are the subject - personal, often humorous and poignant.

I do not consider myself a traditional Street Photographer. Text sometimes is added to images like a page from a book or images are combined to form montages that are illusionistic. Therefore, the work generally has an alternative bent to it. The underlying interest is a story that opens dialogue about situations shared or commonplace within the context of urban life… or those that speak to revisiting past experience.

I also am attracted to landscapes that evoke memory or emotion: another time and place and to imagery that inspects aspects of the natural world in micro-view as a continuum on a page. This work on place, its contents and scale is a recently begun project that will continue to develop over time.

Prints as solar intaglios derive from altered photographic material. Subject matter varies based on the theme of a project or collaboration.
